One Good Earl Deserves a Lover (The Rules of Scoundrels #2)
by Sarah MacLean

Book Blurb:

The second in the incredible new Rules of Scoundrels series from New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean.

Lady Philippa Marbury is odd. The bespectacled, brilliant fourth daughter of the Marquess of Needham and Dolby cares more for books than balls, flora than fashion and science than the season. Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, Pippa wants to explore the scandalous parts of London she’s never seen before marriage. And she knows just who to ask: the tall, charming, quick-witted bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London’s most notorious and coveted gaming hell, known only as Cross.

Like any good scientist, Pippa’s done her research and Cross’s reputation makes him perfect for her scheme. She wants science without emotion—the experience of ruination without the repercussions of ruination. And who better to provide her with the experience than this legendary man? But when this odd, unexpected female propositions Cross, it’s more than tempting . . . and it will take everything he has to resist following his instincts—and giving the lady precisely what she wants.

Heather’s Thoughts:

Pippa is a young Lady who has been odd her entire life. She is very intelligent and instead of doing “ladylike things” she chose to read and learn. This has set her apart her entire life. She is engaged to a nice but simple man. The problem is, Pippa has no idea what marriage and the marriage bed specifically entails and like any good scientist, she will not go in blindly, she plans to do research. So she sets out to be ruined.

“I am going to ruin you, Pippa. I shall show you pleasure you’ve never known, the kind you’ve never dreamed. Over and over and over until you beg me never to stop.” -Cross

Jasper Arlesey, Earl Harlow, also known as Cross, is one of the four owners of The Fallen Angel, a gambling hell. Cross is running desperately from a past he can not escape. His families future was in his hands so many years ago and he failed. He was the perfect second born son. He lived a life of debauchery and sin. He was not prepared to be the heir.

“Temptation turns you. It makes you into something you
never dreamed, it presses you to give up everything you
ever loved, it calls you to sell your soul for one, fleeting
moment.” -Cross

Pippa goes to Cross to get her education in all things scandalous. After all, Cross is notorious among the women. Pippa soon discovers that she may get more than just a simple education and that Cross may be more than she bargained for.

Pippa is naive and adorable at the start of this adventure. By the end, she is taking the bull by the horns. I absolutely adored her zest for life and her scientific undertaking of this thing called love.

Pippa is gambling for more than she ever dreamed and the cost may just be her heart.

“But there, in that remarkable room, surrounded by a laughing, rollicking, unseeing collection of London’s brightest and wickedest, Pippa’s knowledge of anatomy expanded. It seemed there was such a thing as a broken heart.” -Pippa

I really liked this book. I loved Cross in all of his maddening bullheadedness. The sexual chemistry between Pippa and Cross was amazing. The things he does for Pippa just makes my heart melt. Pippa proved that she was no shrinking violet either. Amazing HR read.

About Reading Haven

I am a thirty something wife and mother of two. I read in all of my free time. I can't remember the last time I chose to watch television. I would prefer reading or hanging out online24/7 but one must pay the bills, thus my day job. I like UF but lately have been exploring more erotica and adult romance novels. I love a good Alpha male and I am not afraid of the dark stuff. I like historical romance as well. Sometimes I go for the YA stuff. I'm a sap for a good love story. I prefer a HEA (insert unicorns, rainbows and kittens). Genres I will read: Contemporary Romance and some Historical Romance, Erotica, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult, and Paranormal Romance.
