Animate Me by Ruth Clampett

Animate Me
by Ruth Clampett

She seemed far beyond his reach…could love draw them together?
For years shy animator Nathan has carried a torch for Brooke, the beautiful and dynamic Director of Development at their animation studio, even creating B-Girl, a comic-book heroine in her likeness. When a new project throws the two of them together, lovestruck Nathan finally seizes his moment – only to find Arnauld, head of the animation studio, claiming exclusive rights to Brooke’s affections.

But Nathan, it turns out, is not giving up on his dreams so easily. With inspired determination, he sets out to be the super hero of wooing his girl. Threatened by his persistence, Arnauld plays dirty – only to spark an uprising at the studio that unleashes the sort of havoc only a building full of frustrated animators can create. While Nathan pulls out all the stops to win his B-girl, Brooke has to choose. Should she pursue the sparkling career that has taken her years to build…or follow her heart?

Heather’s Thoughts:

This was a funny and sweet look at love between two self proclaimed nerds. What happens when you love someone from afar? When you finally give into the temptation, build up the nerve and talk to her, it’s like magic. She is everything you ever wanted and more, she just has no idea who you are.

Brooke is an executive in animation. She always loved cartoons and when she discovered she didn’t have what it took to be an animator, she got in the business the only way she could. Brooke is smart and funny and she has her life together, at least it appears so from the outside.

Nathan is a twenty six year old artist. He is the best cartoonist at the company he works for. He is also a serious nerd. He has shaggy hair, wears huge glasses and lives for comic books. He has a serious collection of figurines proudly displayed in his living room. So it came as a huge surprise to this reader that he was sexually inexperienced. Who would have thought!

One day, in the elevator, Nate runs into Brook on his way out for a coffee run and has a brilliant idea. He will bring her coffee and woo her. So begins their daily ritual of coffee and animation. He brings her favorite sugary sweet during and draws her a picture of the day on the cup. There is one significant issue. Brook is in a relationship…with the CEO, Arnauld.

Arnauld is a little full of himself and though he and Brooke have an “open” relationship, he quickly discovers that Nathan may be more competition that he bargained for.

Nate finds himself in a web of lies set up to catch his hearts desire: Brooke. When the walls start tumbling down he turns to those closest to him for help.

HIs father, who is by far one of my favorite secondary characters- EVER, helps him work through his problems.
“And all of the scientific data, statistical facts and empirical evidence can’t compete with the indefinable heart’s desire. For if in the end, she loves you, and she chooses you…none of the rest of this will matter.”

Nate wants Brooke, but there is so much standing between them. And she is desperately afraid of letting herself fall in love with anyone.

I really liked this book. It was enduring and fun and funny and just plain adorable. There was drama, but not over the top. It was a bit predictable at times but still kept me reading. It was refreshing to see a guy so out of his element in the bedroom. Most books are the reverse. Nate has limited experience and what he does have left him questioning his abilities as a lover.

Brooke isn’t overly experienced but she grew up in a household where sexuality was openly expressed. She finds Nate’s inexperience charming and offers to help him out. She doesn’t plan to fall in love.

This was a four star read for me. It was sweet and different. So if you love a good sweet romance with a beauty and a geek, this one is for you.

About Reading Haven

I am a thirty something wife and mother of two. I read in all of my free time. I can't remember the last time I chose to watch television. I would prefer reading or hanging out online24/7 but one must pay the bills, thus my day job. I like UF but lately have been exploring more erotica and adult romance novels. I love a good Alpha male and I am not afraid of the dark stuff. I like historical romance as well. Sometimes I go for the YA stuff. I'm a sap for a good love story. I prefer a HEA (insert unicorns, rainbows and kittens). Genres I will read: Contemporary Romance and some Historical Romance, Erotica, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult, and Paranormal Romance.
